All In a Day's Venture: Tosokchon Ginseng Chicken, Kyobo Bookstore, Singaporean cookout II
This is an ultra throwback post because I have been way too lazy to update my blog till today! Photos from my phone is definitely of a poorer quality compared to canon 650D, look at all the noise in the photos, hence all the heavy filtering..sigh..
So, one fine throwback day, the new gen trios (me gen hn) decided to head out for some Ginseng chicken soup! I am surprised how rare ginseng chicken soup is present in Korea, because I'm always having it in Singapore. Tosokchon is a Korean restaurant known for its signature samgyetang (chicken ginseng soup) made with glutinous rice, gingko nuts, ginseng, garlic etc.
This is the address found on Visit Korea website:
5, Jahamun-ro 5-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
서울 종로구 자하문로5길 5 (체부동)
And the directions:
Gyeongbokgung Station (Seoul Subway Line 3), Exit 2.
Go straight about 170m and turn left onto Jahamun-ro 5-gil Road.
Tosokchon (토속촌) is located 10m ahead on the left.

It was really easy to find!

It is a really really popular place to have this delicacy, just look at the photo below to understand what I mean! This was the queue when we reached!! Luckily, the restaurant is separated into many compartments and has a huge seating capacity, so the queue moved really fast:)
The inside is separated into small hanok huts, where we had to remove our shoes to enter. Everyone was seated on floor cushions. I can imagine how cosy it will be in winter:)

The menu:) We had the choice of the deluxe old ginseng or the young ginseng, and also black or white chicken. We had the basic white chicken ginseng soup:)
Tada!!! As it was a whole chicken, it was too big a serving, could not finish it in the end!! Nevertheless, it was so awesome:) Can't wit to eat it again soon!

Remember this entrance from Running Man too!

Many tourists and locals alike patronise this place. Hence, despite the place being slightly 'touristy' I would say, they still retained much of its original flavour.

And a pachon to go along! But it was too expensive for this plate, recommended not to order!

After the satisfying meal, we headed to Kyobo bookstore, the largest chain bookstore in Korea. I needed to get some stationaries to prepare my then surprise for junwei, so tried my luck at this place! Along our way from the walk from Tosokchon, we passed by Gwanghwamun Square, which I vividly remembered as the filming site of City Hunter.

I love this meaningful quote outside Seoul's biggest bookstore. It says 'Humans made books, and books make humans'
This was where people of all ages crowd around to read and buy books. I am surprised at how the bookstore is so crowded, compared to the ones we have in Singapore!
The bookstore is connected directly to Gwanghwamun Station (Seoul Subway Line 5). From there we made our way to our second Singaporean cookout! We had curry, chicken rice, tomato soup, noodles inspired fried kway teow and gong bao vegetables:)
